San Francisco Bay Area fine artist Zhiyan "Zian" Wang, contemporary realist Chinese painter, does portrait and figurative oil painting. She does commissioned portraits as well.
From warm interiors to lush oriental gardens, my paintings express the beauty of the human figure in various environments and reflect the journey that I have taken from my native China to Northern California.

My sensual figures are influenced by the Pre-Raphaelites and Chinese brush paintings as well as by the portraits I observed my grandfather painting when I was a young girl.

My heritage traces back to Xizhi Wang, the most famous calligrapher in the history of China. I went to traditional art school, the Academy of Art in Hangzhou, China, to take some drawing and painting classes, and then in the last few
years I have taken class after class and workshop after workshop, studying with such renowned artists as Huihan Liu, Ovanes Berberian, Kim English, Dan Gerhartz, Brian Blood, and others at the Academy of Art in San Francisco, the Scottsdale Artists’ School, and the Fechin Art Institute in Taos.

Now living and painting in San Francisco, my figurative style is characterized by soft brushwork and expressive use of color and light. Commissioned portraits are available upon request.
